ONEONTA, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta cross country teams hosted the Airfield Invitational this afternoon out at Fortin Park in the Town of Oneonta and came away with a 9th place finish overall out of 20 schools that participated. The Red Dragons scored 231 points as a team, two places behind SUNYAC rival SUNY Cortland. St. Lawrence University was the overall team champion with four finishers in the top 10 as they scored 50 points, 18 points ahead of SUNY Geneseo.
Today's meet served as a preview of the NCAA Div. III Atlantic Region championship, which will be held at Fortin Park on Saturday, Nov. 13 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The Red Dragons were led today by junior
Lauren Brunetto (Fishkill/Beacon) (Fishkill), who finished 25th overall. Brunetto was a 2010 All-American at the Indoor Track & Field Championships where she placed 6th in the country in the 800m.
Brunetto was followed by senior
Celia Alterio (Amherst/Amherst) (Amherst) (38th), sophomore
Lindsay Romaine (Holbrook/Sachem) (Holbrook) (52nd), and newcomer, freshman
Danielle Kennedy (Stony Point/Albertus Magnus) (Stony Point) (53rd).
Rounding out the top seven for the Red Dragons today was freshman
Allison Ryley (LaGrangeville/Arlington) (LaGrangeville) and sophomores
Pam Ernst (Miller Place/Miller Place) (Miller Place) and
Molly Hassett (Delmar/Bethlehem) (Delmar).
