Men's Track and Field

Track & field teams ranked in first Atlantic Region poll

Women 5th and men 9th

The USTFCCCA has released its first regional rankings nationally in Div. III and both Oneonta State track & field teams have earned a top-10 ranking in the Atlantic Region.  The Oneonta women earned a No. 5 ranking while the men came in at No. 9.

The regional team index uses data provided by TFRRS for only the 2012 indoor season and is a reflection of a team's all-around strength. The regional team index is scored using the current national-team ranking formula as if there were separate regional championships across the country.

The women's regional score came in at 141.04 while the men's was 94.90.  Five women are in the top-8 in nine events within the region while the distance medley relay is also at No. 7.  Four men are in the top-7 in individual events in the region.  These performances are what went into accumulating both team scores in the region.

Individually, junior Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) has three performances that were in the top-8 including being at the top in the high jump.  Her performance 1.70m (5'-7”) at the season-opening meet at Cornell back in Dec. in the event is the regions best to date.  She is also No. 7 in the shot put (11.43m, 37'-6”) and No. 8 in the triple jump (10.82m, 35'-6”), performances that she had at Hamilton this past Saturday and at St. Lawrence back in Dec. respectively.

Oneonta has two other athletes that are in the top spot regionally.  Senior Sarah Timmons (Schodack/Maple Hill) and junior Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) are No. 1 in the 20-lbs. weight throw and the 60-meter dash respectively.  Timmons' toss of 16.68 meters (58'-8.75”) at the Cornell Relays in Dec. is the top performance in the region.  Timmons also earned points in the shot put with her mark of 11.69 meters (38'-4.25”), which she hit at the Cornell Relays.

This past weekend at the Hamilton Invitational, Bernstein ran a personal best time of 6.97 seconds in winning the event.

Other men who figured in this week's score were juniors Jared Reynolds (Coeymans Hollow/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) and John Longo (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) and freshman Robert Farrell.  Reynolds ran a time of 4:26.12 in the mile this past Saturday at Hamilton.  His time has him 7th in the region.  A couple of weeks ago, Longo clocked a time of 15:30.52 in the 5,000-meter run, which has him 5th in the region.  Farrell is 5th in the region in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53, which he ran back in Dec. at the St. Lawrence Holiday Relays.

Rounding out the list of scorers on the women's side include senior Lauren Brunetto (Fishkill/Beacon), junior Pam Ernst (Miller Place/Miller Place) and sophomore Danielle Kennedy (Stony Point/Albertus Magnus).  Kennedy scored in two events for this week's ranking.  She is 6th in the 5,000 with a time of 18:37.05 and 8th in the mile with a personal best time of 5:20.37.  Brunetto is a couple of spots ahead of Kennedy in the mile at No. 6 with a time of 5:20.01.  Ernst scored points in the 5,000 at the No. 5 spot with a time of 18:34.32.

Oneonta's DMR is made up of senior Brianna MacBlane (Liverpool/Liverpool), sophomores Cara Ugolino (West Hurley/Onteora) and Sarah Loret (Delanson/Duanesburg) and freshman Hannah Walsh.  This foursome is currently 7th in the region in the event with a time of 14:24.05, which they ran in the season opener at Cornell.
