FREDONIA, N.Y.—State University of New York Athletic Conference Commissioner Pat Damore has announced the 2012 All-Conference Team in the sport of women's lacrosse. Earning honors for Oneonta State was seniors
Rebecca Monteith (West Islip/West Islip) and
Heidi Kissinger (East Islip/East Islip) along with freshman
Marissa Makar (Yorktown/Yorktown).
Monteith earns All-Conference honors for a fourth straight season after completing the greatest season any women's player has had in the history of the program. She was selected to the first team for a second time during her four years, her first since her freshman season in 2009.
Monteith set the single season record for goals and points this spring. Her 75 goals broke her own previous season record of 70 set during her rookie season of 2009. Her 103 points broke a 27-year record of 90 points set back in 1985 by Madelyn Betzig, who is a member of the Oneonta State Athletics Hall of Fame.
In addition to her offensive output, Monteith also led the team with 60 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers. She was tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals while being second with 54 draw controls.
Kissinger is being honored for the first time in 2012 as an All-Conference performer. She was selected to the second team after her best season in a Red Dragon uniform.
Kissinger was a dominant player on the draw this season for Oneonta. She collected a career best 139 draw controls this spring, which had her ranked nationally in Division III in the top-3 all season. She also scored a collegiate career best 30 goals and 35 points.
Kissinger played in all 63 games during her four-year career for Oneonta. She collected 96 goals and 26 assists for 122 points, which puts her tied for 10th all-time in career points. She also had 244 draw controls, which has her in the top-5 all-time in that category.
Makar was selected to the All-Conference second team after starting 15 games as a defender in her first season with the team. She collected 34 ground balls and 15 draw controls while causing 10 turnovers.
The Red Dragons finished 12-4 this spring, which was its best season in nearly a decade. The 12 wins established a single season record and included a program best 8-0 start to the season.
