The SUNY Oneonta Wresting team went 1-2 today beating Williams College, and dropping matches to both Ithaca and Wesleyan to bring their record to 11-5-1.
 
In the first match, Oneonta defeated the Ephs by a score of 22-19.  With the Red Dragons trailing (7-6) Oneonta won three straight bouts starting at 157 lbs. (Daniel Murphy (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham)),165 lbs. (Thomas Marrone (Pleasantville/Pleasantville)), and 174 lbs. (Ryan Marszal (Unadilla/Unatego)) giving them a nine-point lead (16-7).  
 
Williams then rallied with back-to-back pins by Christopher Chorzepa (184 lbs.) and Martin Strenk (197 lbs.), to take a three-point lead (19-16).  Junior James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties) answered the call and pin his opponent Nicholas Beauchamp in the last bout of the match earning six team points and giving Oneonta a three-point victory. 
 
In their match against Wesleyan, the Red Dragons found themselves in an early six-point deficit after Wesleyan's Amir Daouk won the 125 lbs. class via pin. In the next match at 133 lbs., Oneonta freshman Kevin Knox (Stormville/Carmel) beat Tristan Stetson by decision to cut the lead in half (6-3). Senior Richard Dennison (Port Jervis/Minisink Valley) followed suit with a decision victory to knot the match at six points apiece.
 
Murphy recorded his second win of the day by decision over Robert Rosenberg making the score 9-9.
 
Trailing by seven points (16-9) going into the 184 lbs. class, Oneonta sophomore Lantze Lange (Smithtown/Smithtown West) battled Matt Winchester to take a late first round pin to bring the match to (16-15).
 
Wesleyan's Devon Carillo would seal the deal with a pin at 197 lbs., to put the dual out of reach 22-15 with one match remaining. The Cardinals would forfeit the last match to take a one-point victory (22-21).
 
Oneonta's other dual included a loss to No.4 ranked Ithaca College (47-3).  Murphy earned the only win for Oneonta which was a decision victory against Ithaca's Demitri D'Orsaneo, 7-4.
 
The Red Dragons next matchup will be on February 8^th at 6pm at Oswego.
