Luke Van Slyke begins his second year as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season.
"Luke has a strong passion for basketball and impacted our program in a positive manner last season. We are thrilled to have Luke on our staff, and we are all excited to work with him again,” said Conover. Van Slyke is involved in all facets of the program with a primary emphasis on recruiting, player development, and academic advisement.
Prior to Oneonta, Van Slyke began building his coaching resume as an assistant coach for the Canajoharie Varsity Basketball Team during the 2024–25 season and was also a coach within the KaliKai Warriors AAU program.
Van Slyke had a standout collegiate career at Oswego State, where he helped lead the program to an impressive 100 career wins. During his time with the Lakers, he played a key role in two SUNYAC championships, including an undefeated 18-0 conference season in 2023–24. His teams also posted strong SUNYAC records of 17-1 in both 2022–23 and 2021–22. He was part of three NCAA Tournament appearances, with the Lakers advancing to the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Round of 32 in consecutive years.
Following graduation in 2024 with a degree in Mathematics and minors in Mathematics and Athletic Coaching, Van Slyke continued his basketball career by playing semi-professionally with the Herkimer Originals during the 2024–25 season. He averaged 21.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game.
